Beer cost in Singapore
Drinking is a costly affair in Singapore and even more so for imported craft beer in Singapore.
Singapore is among the most expensive city in the world to buy beer. Within Asia, the only other city more costly than Singapore in terms of beer purchasing power is probably Hong Kong.
Why is drinking so costly in Singapore? Firstly - Singapore has very high excise taxes on alcohol applicable. All alcohol imports to Singapore are taxed heavily.
To make cost higher, every purchase of alcoholic beverage are also subjected to Goods and Services Tax (GST) too.
Imports from countries on trade agreements aligned with Singapore such as USA and Australia tends to receive slightly lower and favourable tariffs rate as compared to European imported beers.
Lastly - the cost of freighting these beers across the seas further adds to the high cost which is why imported beer (good ones especially) are never cheap.
